ARNO-TEMPLET TIES FOR TITLE ON BARS AT N.C. STATE QUAD MEET

Meet Results

RALEIGH, North Carolina (February 3) - Texas Woman’s University senior Courtney Arno-Templet tied for the event title on bars with a score of 9.850 at the Pioneers’ quad meet versus N.C. State, Auburn, and George Washington University on Sunday afternoon at the Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh, North Carolina.

#16 Auburn won the meet with a team score of 195.950. The host team, N.C. State, scored a season-best 195.375 to finish second. George Washington placed third with a 192.075 and the Pioneers came in fourth with a 191.675.

The individual event title is the first of season for Arno-Templet and the second of the year for the Pioneer team (junior Amie Boles won floor exercise at the Pioneers’ quad meet last Sunday versus Denver, Maryland, and Air Force).

“Courtney nailed her bar set today,” said TWU head coach Frank Kudlac. “ Auburn and N.C. State have some of the best bar swingers in the country, so for Courtney to finish as high as she did is an outstanding accomplishment.”

Arno-Templet’s score was just one of five high bars scores for the Pioneers on Sunday. Freshman Amanda Walker posted a career-high mark of 9.775 on the event while junior Brista Michael (9.700) and sophomore Keri Miller (9.625) both recorded new season-highs. Freshman Jennifer Liberato (9.625) did her part as well, and as a result, TWU totaled a season-high team bars score of 48.575.

“Bars was probably our best event of the day,” explained Kudlac. “All of our bar workers were very consistent. It’s good to see us making improvement on the event.”

The Pioneers began the meet on floor, with junior Tonya Pipkorn tallying a TWU team-high score of 9.675. Boles (9.650) and freshman Caroline Hilpisch (9.550) also did well on the event for the Pioneers. As a team, the Pioneers scored a 47.925 on floor.

For the third time this season, freshman Mollie Blessing had the Pioneers best score on vault, a 9.700. Hilpisch and junior Brittany Parker were the other top vaulters for TWU, scoring a 9.625 and a 9.600 respectively. TWU totaled a team vault score of 47.950.

It was a rough day for the TWU beam team. Two of the Pioneers six beam workers fell, and despite the high scores of freshman Kristie Costa (9.700), Parker (9.625), and Pipkorn (9.600), the TWU beam score was a season-low 47.225.

“We had our difficulties on beam,” acknowledged Kudlac. “Beam was our last event, and if we could have hit, there’s a real good chance we could have beaten George Washington. We didn’t get it done today, but I’m confident that our beam team will bounce back and be ready for the next meet”.

Up next for the Pioneers will be a home meet on Friday, February 8, at 7:00 p.m. versus their primary Midwest Independent Conference foe, Southeast Missouri State University. Kudlac said his team is already looking forward to the upcoming showdown with the Redhawks.

“SEMO is number one in our conference and we’re number two,” he explained. “It’s definitely going to be a fiercely competitive meet. Hopefully our fans will come out to Kitty Magee Arena help cheer us on.”
