PIONEERS STAYING STRONG IN NATIONAL RANKINGS
Current GymInfo Rankings
DENTON, Texas (February 27) - The Texas Woman’s University Pioneers continue to be one of the country’s top college gymnastics teams as illustrated by their 35th place ranking in this week’s GymInfo national poll of all NCAA Division I, II, and III gymnastics squads.
This GymInfo rankings are based on a team’s Regional Qualifying Score (RQS). For collegiate women’s teams, an RQS is determined by averaging their six best regular season meet scores, of which three must be away.
TWU scored a 193.850 in their dual meet victory last Saturday night at home over Centenary College to raise their RQS to 192.220, higher than that of several notable Division I programs, including Utah State, George Washington, California, and Pittsburgh.
For the seventh consecutive week, TWU is ranked first in the NCAA D-II rankings and the USA Gymnastics (USAG) college rankings. The Pioneers are also sitting in the top spot in this week’s Midwest Independent Conference (MIC) rankings.
“We’re right where we want to be,” said TWU head coach Frank Kudlac. “Our focus for the remainder of the season is going to be on our RQS. In order for us to qualify for the NCAA South Central Regional Championship, we need to finish in the top 36 in the rankings. That’s an attainable goal if we can maintain a high level of competition.”
Additionally, several Pioneer gymnasts remain in the top three of the individual event rankings for the USAG and MIC:
Vault
- Mollie Blessing - 9.730 RQS - T-3rd USAG/3rd MIC
Bars
- Courtney Arno-Templet - 9.815 RQS - 1st USAG/1st MIC
- Jennifer Liberato - 9.680 RQS - 2nd USAG
Beam
- Courtney Arno-Templet - 9.715 RQS - 2nd USAG/3rd MIC
Floor
- Amie Boles - 9.735 RQS - 1st USAG/2nd MIC
The Pioneers have two dual meets on their schedule this week, at #6 Oklahoma on Friday, February 29, at 7:00 p.m., and home to #23 Iowa on Sunday, March 2, at 2:00 p.m.
