PIONEERS CLAIM DUAL MEET WIN OVER CENTENARY COLLEGE
Meet Results
DENTON, Texas (February 23) - The Texas Woman’s University Pioneers turned in another impressive performance against a Midwest Independent Conference (MIC) foe on Saturday night, defeating the Centenary College Ladies 193.850-189.975 in a dual meet at Kitty Magee Arena.
Senior sensation Courtney Arno-Templet (pictured) was just one of the many standout performers in the meet for the Pioneers. Arno-Templet won the uneven bars individual event title with a score of 9.850. She also claimed the top spot on beam with a career-high tying effort of 9.875.
“I’m running out of superlatives to describe Courtney’s gymnastics this season,” said TWU head coach Frank Kudlac. “She was obviously tremendous again tonight. Her bars and beam routines were virtually flawless, and she definitely deserved to win both events.”
TWU freshman Mollie Blessing also recorded a new career-high in winning the floor exercise competition. Blessing nailed all of her tumbling passes in an electric routine and came away with a mark of 9.775.
“Mollie continues to impress me every single time she competes,” stated Kudlac. “She has made a huge improvement on floor since the start of the season, and it was exciting to see her do so well on the event tonight.”
Junior Brittany Parker (9.775 on vault, 9.675 on beam), freshman Amanda Walker (a career-high 9.800 on bars), freshman Kristie Costa (a career-high 9.800 on beam), and junior Tonya Pipkorn (9.650 on beam, 9.725 on floor) provided the other highlights for the Pioneers.
Kudlac also explained that the Pioneers’ high team score will definitely improve his squad’s ultra-important RQS (Regional Qualifying Score).
“The number one goal for this team from this point forward is to keep building a higher RQS. Our performance tonight should go a long way towards helping us do just that,” he said.
The Pioneers have two dual meets on their schedule next week, on Friday, February 29, at the University of Oklahoma and on Sunday, March 2, at home against the University of Iowa.
