ROCK AND ROLL WITH RIVERS WEST AND THE PIONEERS THIS SATURDAY NIGHT
DENTON, Texas (February 20) – The Rivers West band will provide the rock and the TWU gymnastics team will supply the roll on Saturday night, February 23, at Kitty Magee Arena when the Pioneers host the Centenary College Ladies in a Midwest Independent Conference gymnastics dual meet.
Saturday night’s festivities will begin at 6:00 p.m. with live performance from Rivers West, a local Texas classic rock band. The band, which includes Denton Chamber of Commerce president Chuck Carpenter, will play for one hour prior to (from 6:00-7:00 p.m.) and between rotations of the meet.
This will be the first of two appearances this season for Rivers West at a TWU Gymnastics home meet. The band will also play at the Pioneers quad meet on Friday, March 14, versus Utah State, Kentucky, and Centenary.
“The best phrase I can use to describe Rivers West is crowd-pleasing,” said TWU gymnastics head coach Frank Kudlac. “They play songs that people want to sing along with. We had them out at two of our meets last season and the response was so good that decided to book them again this year.”
Saturday night’s meet will also be TWU Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night and TWU Gymnastics Alumni Night. Invited members of the TWU Faculty and Staff will be recognized prior to the meet while TWU Gymnastics alums will have a small reception following the meet. Big Al’s Totally Twisted Balloons will also have a table at the meet to entertain children and adults alike with his unique balloon shapes.
Seating at Kitty Magee Arena is by general admission only. Adult tickets (ages 17 and up) for TWU gymnastics meets cost $7.00 while tickets for non-TWU students (ages 7-16) are $4.00 apiece. Children 6 and under, TWU students, faculty and staff are admitted free to all TWU home athletic events with a valid TWU ID. Additionally, TWU faculty and staff will be granted three free admissions per home event for guests of their choice (excluding students in grades 9-12).
