LIBERATO STARS IN PIONEERS’ DUAL MEET WIN AT WEST CHESTER
Meet Results
WEST CHESTER, Pennsylvania (February 15) – Freshman Jennifer Liberato won the vault, floor exercise, and all-around titles to lead the Texas Woman’s University Pioneers to a 187.600-171.625 dual meet victory over the West Chester University Rams on Friday night in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
Competing just hours away from her hometown of Malvern, Pennsylvania, Liberato hit on all four events to claim the all-around competition with a score of 38.375. She tied her career-highs in winning the vault (9.775) and floor exercise (9.700) competitions. Her beam score of 9.400 was second only to the 9.500 scored by her TWU teammate, junior Abbi Thomas. Liberato (pictured) posted a 9.500 on bars, a mark outdone only by the 9.675 recorded by Pioneer senior Courtney Arno-Templet.
“Jennifer made the most of her opportunity to compete as an all-arounder,” said TWU head coach Frank Kudlac. “It was exciting to see her do so well with so many of her family and friends in the stands. She’s been improving on every event all season long and tonight she took another major step forward.”
Kudlac went on to say that he was pleased with his team’s overall performance in their first-ever competition against the Rams.
“We changed the lineup up tonight on all four events to try and give some of our girls an opportunity to compete in different situations. After a sloppy start on bars, I felt like we really pulled it together on vault. The scoring tonight was a little tight, so for us to come away with a 187.600 is a satisfactory result,” he explained.
The Pioneers will stay in Pennsylvania for the weekend. On Saturday, February 16, Kudlac will be inducted into the WCU Athletics Hall of Fame. TWU’s veteran head coach is a West Chester alum and competed for four-years on the Rams men’s gymnastics team in the late 1970’s.
On Sunday, February 17, TWU will take part in an 11:00 a.m. CST quad meet at WCU with the University of Bridgeport and Southern Connecticut State University. It will be the first time in NCAA gymnastics history that four Division II teams have shared the competition floor.
“Sunday’s meet is an important one. We’re currently ranked number one in all of NCAA Division II and we need to come out and perform like a top-ranked team should,” concluded Kudlac.
