MAROON SQUAD POSTS TOP SCORE AT INTRASQUAD MEET

NCAA ScoreSheet

Event Winner Sheet

DENTON, Texas (December 7) - An enthusiastic crowd of 464 fans watched the Silver, Maroon and White squads compete against each other at the Texas Woman’s University annual gymnastics Intrasquad Spectacular on Friday night at Kitty Magee Arena in Denton.

The three squads competed on vault, uneven bars, and balance beam. Maroon won the team competition with a score of 83.65. The Silver team placed second with a total of 82.55 while the White team finished third with an 81.70.

Three gymnasts - senior Nicole Poling, junior Amie Boles, and freshman Jennifer Liberato - took part in all three events, and thus recorded an all-around score. Poling (pictured) and Liberato tied for first in the all-around with identical 27.85 scores while Boles tallied a 26.95 to finish second.

Poling and freshman Lauren Sizemore posted the top vault score of the night, 9.600. Senior Courtney Arno-Templet was the top performer on both bars (9.650) and beam (9.750).

Six Pioneers performed their floor routines in an exhibition format. Junior Amy Hulbert had the best score on the event, a 9.525.

TWU head coach Frank Kudlac was enthused about the efforts of his team in their preseason competition.

“I’ve been saying for the last three weeks or so that I think this group is ahead of where we’ve been in the past at this point,” he said. “I think tonight we showed that. I was very impressed with the overall skill level of our team.”

Kudlac went on to compliment both the returning members and the new faces on his 2008 squad.

“Our upperclassmen demonstrated tonight how much their experience the last few years has helped them. That was nice to see. I was also pleased with the efforts of our freshmen. We have a talented group of newcomers that should continue to get better and better as the season goes along,” he stated.

The Pioneer gymnastic team will begin their 2008 regular season on Friday, January 4, 2008, when they travel to Cancun, Mexico to take part in the prestigious Cancun Classic. TWU’s first home gymnastics meet in 2008 will be on Saturday, January 19, when the Oklahoma Sooners come to town for a 7:00 p.m. dual meet.
