 Freshman Caroline Hilpisch (pictured) has been chosen by her teammates as this week's TWU Gymnastics Pioneer of the Week (P.O.W.). Hilpisch is a native of Stillwater, Minnesota and trained as a club gymnast at Perpetual Motion Gymnastics in Woodbury, Minnesota.
Hilpisch competed two events (vault and floor) for the Pioneers in the teams' first four meets of 2008. On February 8, she suffered a season-ending knee injury performing a vault against Southeast Missouri State University.
Despite being sidlelined by her injury, Hilpisch has remained positive and upbeat. Her team-first winning attitude has played a major role in the Pioneers' continued success this year. Hilpisch is one of the most vocal cheerleaders on the team, and she has made a noticeable daily effort to fully support her teammates and coaching staff.
"She really is a remarkable young woman," said TWU head coach Frank Kudlac of Hilpisch. "That's a tough thing to go through, blowing out your knee in the first half of your freshman season. Caroline has handled everything in an amazing fashion. She is having her ACL repaired this week (Tuesday, March 18) and I'm already looking forward to having her back in the lineup next season."
