 Freshman Mollie Blessing (pictured) has been chosen by her teammates as this week's TWU Gymnastics Pioneer of the Week (P.O.W.). Blessing is a native of Plano, Texas and trained as a club gymnast at US Gold/Excite Gymnastics in Highland Village, Texas.
Blessing’s performance on vault and floor in the Pioneers’ quad meet versus LSU, Denver University, and the University of Minnesota on Friday, January 4, at the Cancun Classic in Cancun, Mexico helped TWU to a team score of 190.900, the highest season-opening score in the thirty-year history of the Pioneers’ gymnastics program.
Blessing scored a TWU team-best 9.725 on vault, tying her for 7th place in the overall vault competition at the meet. She hit as well on floor, scoring a 9.600 to tie for 16th overall.
“Mollie was phenomenal in the first meet of her collegiate gymnastics career,” said TWU head coach Frank Kudlac. “She really stepped up and proved that she could compete against some of the nation’s best gymnasts in a pressure-packed situation. I’m very proud of the way she performed.”
