PIONEER POST from Courtney |
Pioneer Post - September 3, 2007
Welcome Back Pioneer Fans,
This is Courtney Arno-Templet. “Tom-play” is how you would pronounce that, and yes, I got married over the summer. I’m glad to say that I’m back for one last year to represent TWU and hopefully lead this year’s gymnastics team to an exciting and successful season. I graduated in May with a BBA in Marketing and have started the EMBA program here at TWU. I also am working as a graduate assistant in the newly formed Leadership Institute on campus. I am very excited about the leadership opportunities that I will have to organize and participate in all year!
School has begun and we started the year off with our annual Welcome Back BBQ on Aug. 21st. It was exciting to have the entire team together for the first time with our eight new rookies. We visited with friends and family over Rudy’s BBQ and ended the evening with our traditional “team talk” to help get the rookies oriented. The next day our rookies had their annual “Rookie Lunch” to better get acquainted with each other and learn some of the basics of TWU gymnastics. The entire team met up later that day on campus for the Maroon and White Block Party where we were all introduced to all the new students on campus along with the other athletics teams at TWU.
After a few days of having everyone together and getting a feel of this year’s team, I can honestly say I’m so excited for this year and can’t wait to get started in the gym. Official practice has not started, but after watching everyone during a few “Open Gyms,” I have some high expectations from our team. I can already tell that our new additions are going to make great contributions. My goal is to see this team come together and reach our highest potential through positive dedication, support and excellence in everything we do.
We started the week off with our 1.5 mile run test Tuesday morning at 6:00 a.m. The rest of the week was followed with some optional workouts and a few campus runs to help get everyone back in the gym and comfortable with our new freshly painted facility. We now have bright white walls and ceiling along with some maroon posts along two sides of the walls. It definitely brightens up the gym and brings in a new look to our practice facility in the DGL building.
We started our weight room orientation Sunday night during this nice Labor Day weekend and we will finish it Monday morning at 6:00 a.m. with a 3.5 mile run, some sprints and a conditioning circuit in the gym (see photo of the red, white and blue Labor Day wardrobe of our team).
I hope everyone is as happy to be back as I am. We will have weekly updates for you throughout the year so you can keep up with all that is going on with your eight-time (soon to be nine) USA Gymnastics National Championship team.
Thanks to all our fans and sponsors for your continued support throughout the years. We couldn’t do what we do without you. Check back next week for another update and exciting news from your favorite team.
GO PIONEERS
