Pioneer Post - September 24, 2007
Hello Pioneer Gymnastics Fans!
My name is Nicole Poling, and I am a senior biology major. I cannot believe this is already my fourth and final year on the team! Time certainly does fly by. I am so excited for another exciting year of Pioneer gymnastics!
This past week in the gym has been very productive and exciting as we are starting to do more gymnastics and showcase some of our more difficult skills. I think this is the earliest we have ever flipped our vaults before and done release moves on bars. As the coaches have said, and it seems evident to me, the team seems to be further along at this point in the preseason than teams have been in the past. In addition to some very productive practices, we got to top off the week with a birthday celebration! Gretchen’s (our new GA assistant coach) birthday was on Friday so we celebrated with singing and some delicious cupcakes!
October is quickly approaching, and with that being said, this week will be our last week of early morning runs. We will complete this high intensity training month with a very demanding run (both physically and mentally) on Friday, September 28 th. It sounds tedious, but this is actually a fun event for the team. All of the classes get together and make shirts or anything creative, and we usually have a delicious breakfast after everyone has completed the run. We will also be hosting a large USAG age group meet this weekend in Pioneer Hall. The team will help out with the meet.
I am very excited for this year!! The team has a lot of talent and it appears as though we will have some pretty good depth on each event, which is always extremely helpful. I am impressed with the team chemistry on the team, and I look forward to building new relationships and forming new memories that I can take with me when I graduate from the program.
Our main team goal for this year is consistency in everything we do (both in and out of the gym). It is critical that we work on becoming consistent right now in order for us to be successful in the future.
Thanks so much for supporting our team!! Check back next week for more Pioneer news!
Go Pioneers!
One Team – One Dream
Embrace the Challenge!
