PIONEER POST from Jennifer

Pioneer Post - September 17, 2007

Hello Pioneer Fans,

Welcome back to another exciting week of TWU gymnastics. My name is Jennifer Kingsbury and I am a senior biology major. I am also very happy to say that I am back in the gym and training again after recovering from ACL surgery last March. Our annual September training regime has been very beneficial for getting back into shape.

This past week we had several intense practices. Monday morning we had a three-mile run and later in the day we did sprints, conditioning, and pool work. This was our first swim of the year and it was nice to get out of the heat and give our legs a break. Tuesday’s and Thursday’s practices went really well and on Friday after training, we finished the day at the University of North Texas football stadium for some running and conditioning. Some of us had to re-do the mile and a half-run test. Coach had set a goal for the girls that hadn’t made it (1.5 miles in 12 minutes) to beat their previous times. I am excited to say that two out of the three that tested, Amy Hulbert and Kristie Costa, made the run in less than twelve minutes!

This weekend was also the leadership retreat for the juniors and seniors. We went out to Gainesville, Texas, on Friday afternoon (see the picture of us leaving campus) and stayed overnight at a lake house on Moss Lake. We spent the evening grilling dinner, relaxing and visiting with each other and setting our goals for this coming season. As a team, we decided we wanted to be more consistent overall, with every single aspect of our season, both in and out of the gym. We also came up with our motto for the year: “One Team, One Dream, Embrace the Challenge!” This motto is what will propel us into season, keeping the main focus on team unity and practicing each day with heart.

After a great night’s sleep, we had some time to relax and lay out on the dock. We also went on a boat ride and some of us did some fishing as well. After another short meeting in the afternoon, we headed back to Denton and our homework.

The retreat this weekend got all of the juniors and seniors very excited about this coming year. I for one can’t wait to see what challenges and opportunities await us this season!

Check back next week to learn more about our Pioneer gymnastics team!!

Go Pioneers!
One Team – One Dream!
