Pioneer Post – March 3, 2008
Welcome back Pioneer fans!
We started off our weekend with a competition at the University of Oklahoma. It was the first “Flip for the Cure” meet for the Sooners. Donning our pink leotards and our new pink ribbon tattoos, we started off the meet with a bang on bars. Senior Courtney Arno-Templet was once again the strongest performer for the Pioneers, with a 9.825 and a second-place finish. Vault was equally strong with an impressive second-place performance from another senior, Nicole Poling (9.825). Unfortunately, we lost our momentum on beam and floor. Although we were disappointed with our team performance, we gathered up all the strength and heart that we had to prepare for another dual meet on Sunday versus the University of Iowa. Although we were determined, the meet did not start as planned. After some early troubles on vault and bars, beam and floor came back with a vengeance. The beam team was led by Arno-Templet (9.825) and freshman Kristie Costa (9.8). The floor team refused to be ignored en route to a 48.675 team score highlighted with performances by freshman Mollie Blessing (9.8), junior Tonya Pipkorn (9.775) and junior Amy Hulbert (9.725). We finished the meet with a 193.475 despite having to count two falls.
This weekend was definitely a learning experience for us, and I think it made us stronger as a team. After a short week in the gym, we will leave for our meet against the University of Denver and the University of Pittsburgh. We hope to tally a strong away score so that our dream of making it to NCAA Regionals as a team for the first time can become a reality.
Don’t forget about our last home meet on March 14 th against Centenary, Kentucky and Utah State. This meet is our annual Senior Night and our first Short People Appreciation Night.
Check back next week for more updates!
One team. One dream. Embrace the challenge.
