Pioneer Post – March 31, 2008
Hello Pioneer Fans,
Welcome back to another week of TWU gymnastics. This past weekend was the Midwest Independent Conference Championships hosted by Centenary College. To help get us prepared for the meet, the coaches had us do several team sets on all of the events. We also had a few days off to rest our bodies so we would be refreshed for the meet.
Unfortunately, we did not perform as well as we had hoped, placing fourth behind Illinois-Chicago, Southeast Missouri State, and Centenary with a 191.075. We had a rough start to the meet counting a fall on beam, and two falls on floor. Even with the mistakes, Courtney Arno-Templet (9.675) won the beam title and Kristie Costa (9.65) tied for 2nd. On floor, Amie Boles (9.825) tied for 5th. Next we moved to the vault and hit all of our vaults! Mollie Blessing (9.775) took 6th on the event. Finally we finished the competition on bars with all hits. Arno-Templet (9.825) once again took the title.
Although the gymnastics portion of the meet left us a little disappointed, our team achieved many academic awards. Courtney Arno-Templet, Amie Boles, Brista Michael, Amy Hulbert, Nicole Poling, Brittany Parker, Leslie Pladson, Alexa Brennan, Jennifer Kingsbury, Keri Miller, Jennifer Liberato, Tonya Pipkorn and Lauren Sizemore all earned 2008 MIC Scholar Athlete honors.
While this weekend wasn’t the ideal situation or outcome for us, we learned several important lessons and we are going to use this experience as motivation for improvement in the gym. In a few weeks we will return to Centenary College to try and win our 9 th USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championship!
Check back next week for more updates!
One team. One dream. Embrace the challenge.
