PIONEER POST from Amie

Pioneer Post – March 24, 2008

Welcome Back Pioneer Gymnastics Fans!

I have to say that this was one week that many of the Pioneers were looking forward to…SPRING BREAK! To us, Spring Break meant no school and more time to concentrate on perfecting our gymnastics for the final weeks of competition. This week was designated as prep week for the “Melee in Missouri” against one of our MIC rivals, Southeast Missouri State University.

Our team is working really hard and together to accomplish great things this season. The positive energy in the gym is contagious and everyone is pushing each other for lineup positions. To add a little fun into our workout this week, we participated in an annual Easter Egg Hunt where candy and prizes were won and a St. Patrick’s Day competition. For St. Patrick’s Day, the idea was to wear the most green possible. Senior Jennifer Kingsbury blew everyone away when she showed up dressed entirely in green, with green hair, and even green shamrocks painted on her legs!

On Wednesday we left for Missouri, and enjoyed a delicious meal at Jennifer Kingsbury’s home in St. Louis. The long trip to SEMO, located in Cape Girardeau, is always brightened by the fantastic visit to the sideways house.

Thursday we participated in an evening dual meet against SEMO. We totaled an away score of 192.925, dropping a previous 191.675 to improve our RQS. The meet began with a rough start; we had to count a fall on bars. But the vault, floor, and beam teams did exceptionally well. I was very impressed at how we kept our confidence and continued to finish strong. I was especially proud of the beam team; they had a tough position as the last event in a tight competition and ended up scoring a season high of 48.90, a new school record! We returned home to have a few days off to enjoy the Easter holiday. Hopefully the rest and family time will help us prepare this week as we gear up for our conference championship this Friday, March 28, in Shreveport, Louisiana. Wish us luck as we plan to bring home the second MIC title for the TWU Pioneers.
