PIONEER POST from Courtney

Pioneer Post – March 17, 2008

Hello Pioneer Fans,

This is senior/first year grad student Courtney Arno-Templet (pictured), and I’m excited to say it has been a great week for TWU gymnastics. After heading home from a fantastic weekend in Denver, there was no let down in the gym as we prepared for our last home meet of season determined to send the seniors off with a bang! We took the momentum from Denver and motivated ourselves to take our gymnastics to the next level. Focusing on details during the three practices we had, the team was ready to compete big as we headed up Utah State, University of Kentucky, and an MIC rival, Centenary Gymnastics.

With the competition being on a Friday night, it was a short week for us and the meet approached us quickly. It was a very emotional night for the team and me personally, as the seniors were hit with the reality that this would be last time they competed in Kitty Magee Arena where they have called home for last 4 years. It’s all very surreal until the time comes and you realize how much you are going to miss the sport and most of all team that has truly become your family. It was a big night for the team and it showed as we posted our highest team score of the year with a 194.2. Senior Nicole Poling posted a team high score of a 9.85 on vault and ended the night with one of the best floor routines I have ever seen her do posting a new career high of 9.825. Junior Tonya Pipcorn also posted a new career high on floor with a 9.85. We had big hits all night and it was a great way to finish up the season at home. We came in second to Kentucky, gaining two wins against Utah State and Centenary.

After the meet the whole team headed over to El Guapo’s for dinner to visit with friends and family. We had Saturday off to relax and then started up spring break practices on Sunday in preparation for our final regular season meet against Conference rival Southeast Missouri State. We compete Thursday night, so it will be another short week for us in the gym. Check back next week to hear all about it as we get fired up for the 2008 Midwest Independent Conference Championships on March 29th.

One Team, One Dream
