PIONEER POST from Jennifer |
Pioneer Post – February 4, 2008
Hello Pioneer Gymnastics Fans!
This past week junior Kelsey Nixon was selected (POW) Pioneer of the Week. Kelsey has been working really hard in the gym to break into the lineup on all four events. She always has a positive attitude and she is an inspiration for her fellow teammates.
Last week we worked really hard to correct our mistakes from the quad meet and prepare for the meet in North Carolina. On Friday we had a team competition day to help us prepare for the meet. This was a good chance for us to fix the little things and improve our routines before we got on the plane.
On Saturday morning we traveled to Raleigh, North Carolina. We arrived at the hotel in the afternoon and spent most of the day relaxing and catching up on homework. Sunday we competed against N.C. State, George Washington and Auburn. Our first rotation was on floor. Everyone made their routines and the team did a good job of getting the meet started. Next we went to vault and did really well. Freshman Mollie Blessing scored the team high of a 9.70! On bars the team posted some very high scores including 9.85 by Courtney Arno-Templet. Courtney ended up tying for first on bars and the team posted a season high of 48.575! We finished up the meet on beam and had to count a few mistakes. We ended up taking fourth place with a total score of 191.675.
The competition my not have gone exactly the way we wanted it to, but the experience just gives us motivation to get into the gym this week and work really hard so we can have a great meet against Southeast Missouri, our conference rival, this coming Friday! They are the number one team in the Midwest Independent Conference and we aren’t far behind in number two! The meet should be an exciting one so we hope to see everyone there at 7 p.m. in Pioneer Hall!
Check back next week for more Pioneer gymnastics news!
