PIONEER POST from Brittany |
Pioneer Post – February 25, 2008
Hello Everyone!
It was great to be back at home this week after the very long weekend of traveling and competing in Pennsylvania. We got back into the gym at the beginning of the week, eager to train hard for a few days and have the opportunity to compete in front of our home crowd for another big conference match-up against Centenary College.
Coming back from our tiring weekend, we kept up our enthusiasm and aggressive training, just as we have been pushed to the whole year. I was very proud of the way we handled ourselves and the good attitudes we kept throughout the week as we tried to get caught up with our schoolwork, while still keeping “our noses to the grindstone” as Coach often says.
Saturday was our meet against Centenary. We were all pumped up and ready to have a big meet! We got surprised with an awesome new carpet for our floor that is maroon and has our “Pioneers” logo in the middle! It was exciting for all of us. Our team turned in an outstanding effort and we defeated Centenary 193.850 to 189.975! Several of our gymnasts recorded or matched their career-best scores in the meet - Lauren Sizemore on vault (9.675), Jennifer Kingsbury on bars (9.700), Amanda Walker on bars (9.800), Abbi Thomas on beam (9.725), Kristie Costa on beam (9.800), and Courtney Arno-Templet on beam (9.875). Courtney won both the beam and bars competitions while Mollie took home the title on floor exercise.
Overall, the weekend was a success as we achieved our goal of improving our RQS (Regional Qualifying Score) in the hopes of qualifying to the NCAA Regional meet. We only have two home meets left for this season. Sunday, March 2, we host the University of Iowa and it is our “Think Pink” breast cancer awareness meet. The last meet is our senior night on Friday, March 14. Make sure to come out and support your Pioneers for the last two home meets of our season!
Thank you for your continued support!
Go Pioneers!
One team, one dream!
