Pioneer Post – February 18, 2008
Hey TWU Gym Fans,
I am Kelsey Nixon, a junior from Marietta, Georgia.
I am excited to say we are about halfway through our season and doing better than ever. It was a short week in the gym leading to our long weekend of competition. The weekend started on Friday with a win at West Chester University. There were a lot of surprising new alterations that the coaches’ had up their sleeves. We rested some girls for the competition on Sunday, thus allowing others to have an opportunity to compete. Jennifer Liberato got to experience the competition as an all-arounder. She was very successful in hitting all four events.
On Saturday night, Coach was inducted into the WCU Athletics Hall of Fame. He has been coaching at TWU since 1978 and has proven to be a great coach, guiding his team to eight USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships with hopes that more will come.
Sunday we competed in a quad meet against West Chester University, Southern Connecticut State University, and University of Bridgeport – all Division II schools for the first time ever. Scoring a 191.875, we came out as VICTORS. I am excited to say we are proving to be more consistent with in every meet as the season continues. We did not have to count any falls and we had girls finish in first on every event.
I am excited to see our team gradually getting better as the season progresses. We are taking steps in the right direction. Our coach says he has the map, and as long as we continue to follow, we will find the treasure in the end.
ONE TEAM, ONE DREAM, EMBRACE THE CHALLENGE.
Kelsey
