Pioneer Post – February 11, 2008
Welcome back, Pioneer fans!!
After returning from the meet in North Carolina, we were motivated to get back into the gym and clean things up for the matchup with our conference rival, Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO). With only three practice days to prepare, it was important that we focus on the details that would allow us to stand out against our opponent.
The hard work and determination we have each day in the gym is critical for the month of February—the coaches reminded us that in the remaining three weeks of this short month, we have five meets. With the Regional Qualifying Score coming into effect soon, the scores we post away and at home for the rest of this month will help in the national standings and in our hopes of qualifying for regionals and remaining #1 in the USAG standings.
After a productive “team day” on Thursday, we were ready to dominate the competition on Friday. The vault team started us off with a great team vault score. The bar team kept the meet going like we knew it could; all seven that competed made their sets. We went to beam with confidence but unfortunately had to count a fall. The floor competitors were able to pull it back though. Keri Miller was put in at the last second - she had just the three-minute touch to warm up her skills - and competed her first-ever floor set! We were neck and neck with SEMO the whole time, and thanks to the collective effort by everyone, we were able to defeat the #1 ranked team in the Midwest Independent Conference!
Now it is back to the practice gym because we all know what hard work we still have for our two meets this weekend at West Chester.
Come back next week for more Pioneer news!
One Team. One Dream. Embrace the Challenge.
