Pioneer Post – January 7, 2008
Hola!
 Well, the 2008 season is now officially underway! We just arrived back home from our exciting season opener in beautiful Cancun, Mexico! Let me take this time to thank everyone who contributed to our trip; we definitely wouldn’t be able to do it without all of your wonderful support. We were also very fortunate that some of the parents were able to come cheer us on at the meet!
We left for Cancun on the third very early in the morning, had a fairly short plane ride and finally got to our hotel, which was right on the beach. We relaxed the rest of the day until we got all dressed up to attend the banquet that was held for the teams that night.
The next day was the meet and we were all so excited for it to start and to show off how hard we have worked! I was extremely proud of our team for the way we represented the University and ourselves during the meet and the trip. We went into the meet very confident and focused on getting our jobs done. We had talked earlier in the week about making sure that we took one event and one competitor at a time and about staying “in the box” and we did a wonderful job with that. Our rookies did awesome as well considering this was their first collegiate meet. It can be nerve racking, but I was very proud of the way they handled themselves. We trusted our training and it really paid off!
After the meet, Coach surprised us with a reservation at the famous Senor Frogs restaurant - we had a fun-filled dinner with each other and the parents who were there. It was a great experience!
Saturday, we were allowed the day to go to the beach and out to the markets around town, just for some fun in the sun! We all enjoyed having the day to do some things we don’t normally get to do. Some of the girls played volleyball and even made a sand castle!
We still have two weeks until our first home meet, and some more time off from school so that we can really focus on gymnastics. We all can’t wait to start our home season and for everyone to see what we can do! Don’t forget, our home opener is on Saturday, January 19, at 7:00 p.m. in Kitty Magee Arena. We’re all hoping to see you there!
