Pioneer Post – January 28, 2008
Hello Pioneer Gymnastics Fans!
After our exciting home opener, we went back to practice with renewed intensity and worked hard on perfecting the “little things” in preparation for our quad meet against Denver, Maryland and Air Force.
Despite having to count a few falls and stumbles, the team finished with a final score of 192.175. The vault team got us off to a great start with an impressive 48.9. Senior Nicole Poling led the way with a 9.875. On our next event (bars), we got off to a rocky start, but freshman Amanda Walker and senior Courtney Arno-Templet picked it back up. The beam team came through with a strong performance as well, hitting 7 for 7 routines, led by junior Tonya Pipkorn and Arno-Templet. The team finished up on floor. We had a few mistakes, but once again, we were picked up by strong performances by Pipkorn and junior Amie Boles. Amie’s routine set a new school record of 9.9 against some very tough competitors!
We travel to North Carolina this weekend and hope to achieve a season-high away score to help our average! We will be competing against three very strong Division I opponents - North Carolina State, Auburn and George Washington University - on Sunday, Feb. 3.
Don’t forget about our next home meet against conference rival Southeast Missouri State on Friday, February 8, at 7:00 p.m. Looks like this will be a great match up of the number 1 vs. number 2 teams in the Midwest Independent Conference!
Check back next week for more TWU gymnastics news.
One team. One dream. Embrace the challenge.
