Pioneer Post – January 21, 2008
Welcome back Pioneer Fans!
Let me start by saying thanks to everyone who came out and supported TWU Gymnastics at our first home meet on Saturday against Oklahoma. It was a great success; the stands were full, and we were entertained by the two-time Grammy Award winning Brave Combo (check out the picture of our team with the band below!). For the first time this season, we sported our new TWU attire, and showed off our new spotlight march- in complete with a slide show!
This week was a transition week for many of Pioneers as it was the first week of Spring classes. We had to get out of the two-a-day mode and begin focusing on our studies. Of the many traditions our team has, one of them is achieving high classroom standards. Wish us luck as we take on the challenges of both, a great gymnastics and academic season.
This week’s practice was focused on our performance for meet. We worked extremely hard doing pressure sets and fine tuning the little details that make such a huge difference. This year’s team has proven to be diverse and deep on every event; we have at least eight gymnasts ready to compete on everything – such an amazing accomplishment!
Not only was the attendance a success on Saturday, but so was our performance. We walked away scoring a 192.80 (counting one fall), almost two points higher than Cancun! I am really proud of how we looked in competition. We still have some details to fix, but we are off to a great start. Check out the press release here!
Our next meet is on Sunday, January 27, at 2:00 p.m. in Magee Arena. It is a quad meet against Air Force, Denver and Maryland. The first 150 fans get a free “Pioneer Proud” drawstring back pack. Also there will be a youth gymnastics clinic with the TWU Gymnastics team immediately following the meet. We would love to see you there, so come out and support your Pioneers!
Check back next week for more T-Dub news!
One Team. One Dream. Embrace the Challenge.
