Pioneer Post - December 10, 2007
Welcome back Pioneer Gymnastics Fans!
This week proved to be a very exciting week! For some of the Pioneers it may have been stressful, especially with finals and the Intrasquad meet within reach, but I feel we did a great job working as a team to make it through together.
We started this week off with our traditional Secret Santa gifts. There were three small gifts given during the week, and one last gift given at Coach’s Christmas party on Saturday. Coach’s Christmas party is a tradition that we do every year. It was a great time to have the team together to relax, to eat, to take pictures, make cookies, and to find out our Secret Santa! The best parts about the Christmas party were Coach reading Oh, the Places You’ll Go by Dr. Seuss, and having our team together one last time before break.
Another very exciting event this week was our Intrasquad meet! It was a chance for us to showcase our hard work and determination for our coaches, teammates, and fans. There was a great crowd (more than 450!) full of friends, family, supporters, and alumni. We even got to march out in a spot light! In between rotations, Coach gave a background on each event to help the audience better understand the judging. At this point in the season we are not perfect, but everyone looked determined and put up a great fight. This was the first meet of the season, and a chance for us to get rid of our first meet “jitters.” It was also the first time the freshmen had a chance to wear the colors of the TWU Pioneers in competition. We competed as three teams - Maroon, Silver, and White - on the vault, bars, and beam. At the end we competed six exciting full floor routines. After seeing the excitement in everyone before, during, and after Intrasquad, I am really excited about the upcoming season. Our first meet is approaching, the Cancun Classic on January 4, and we still have some work to do. With this hardworking, cohesive team and the great tradition that we follow, I feel we have a great season to look forward too.
The week of finals is approaching, and we are hard at work with our studying. Wish us luck as we try to maintain our high academic standards.
Thanks for all the support!
One Team. One Dream. Embrace the Challenge.
