PIONEER POST from Courtney |
Pioneer Post - November 12, 2007
Hello,
This is Courtney Arno-Templet, back again to fill everyone in on another great week for the Pioneer gymnastics team. I must say it has been quite an adventure so far this year, but a very exciting one at that. The coaches have really increased their level of expectations for this team, and as a result we have some big gymnastics in the making. One person in particular is Amy Hulbert, who was selected as this weeks POW (Pioneer of the week). She is making some amazing upgrades to her gymnastics and is showing herself to be a great asset to the team this year.
We started the week off great on Sunday morning as some of the team - Brittany Parker, Brista Michael, Jennifer Liberato, and Amanda Walker - participated in some community service by volunteering in the “TRI 4 Life” triathlon held in Denton. They were there helping from 7:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. directing the competitors to where they needed to be and assisting with other needed tasks. We then had practice at 4:00 p.m. later that day. With such little free time outside of school and the gym, I think volunteering their time like this says a lot about the type of people who make up this team. Thanks, ladies, for representing the team and the University so well!
Practices just seem to be getting better and better. I’m overwhelmed by the talent we have this year, and I hope that all of you are as excited as I am about competition season, which is just around the corner. Our intra squad meet is only 3½ weeks away, and then we will head off to Mexico on Jan. 3 to compete in the Cancun Classic where we’ll face LSU, Denver and Minnesota. We are all very excited and I think it is going to be a good start for the year, and great experience for our freshmen.
Before I finish, I’m so happy to say that we have already started working uneven bar mounts, and it’s almost six weeks before two-a-days. For those of you who are familiar with this, you know that this is quite an accomplishment.
That’s all I have for now, but check back next week to hear about our upcoming “choreography weekend” and “Thanksgiving incentive.” You don’t want to miss this!
Go Pioneers!!!!
