Pioneer Post - October 8, 2007
Hello Pioneer Gymnastics Fans!
My name is Amy Hulbert and I am a junior History/Education major. This year we have a talented team filled with passion and encouragement, and it’s going to be another incredible year.
This week began the month of October - Rock-tober as we call it - where we really begin preparing our routines for the season ahead. We have started emphasizing gymnastics more than conditioning, and it’s clear that this team came in ready to rock. Our tumbling has really started to pick up, and it looks as though we may debut some new passes this year. Beam is looking amazing with several triple flight series and there have been many high flying release moves on bars. But I think vault is where this team has really improved. With the way we are going now, we will be gaining 5 or 6 tenths just in start values! Everyone has been really working hard and looking awesome!
This month we have started a new lifting program as well, which we hope will make us strong enough to “embrace the challenges” that this new season will present.
This past weekend many of us volunteered with the United Way (pictured) where we interacted with children and told the general public all about our fantastic program! Also, two juniors, Amie Boles and Kelsey Nixon, participated in the Heart Walk to raise awareness for heart disease, where they walked two miles around Northlakes Park here in Denton.
I am so excited about our team this year and I can’t wait to see how we improve between now and January. We have already become more of a cohesive unit, and that’s what it’s going to take if we want to achieve our goals.
One team – one dream!
Check back next week for more updates on the Pioneers!
