Pioneer Post - October 1, 2007
Welcome Back Pioneer Fans!
My name is Amie Boles and I am a junior Kinesiology/Pre-PT major. I am really excited about this year’s team. So far we are off to a great start and it looks like we are ready to “Embrace the Challenge” ahead of us.
Basically this week we focused on getting out of our comfort zone. As Nicole pointed out in the previous Pioneer Post, we are beginning to do more difficult tumbling, flight on the beam and release moves on bars. It is really exciting to watch all the skills we are doing at this point in preseason. By getting out of our comfort zones, we are setting the mood for October, or Rock-tober as we call it. October is a crucial point in preseason; it begins to establish those who are potentials for lineup.
Ending this week, we participated in an end of September Team Challenge. This event not only marked the end of September, but it also provided some fun in our work out. The coaches gave us a list of 20 clues for each class to use to navigate around campus. Each class worked as a team in hopes of finishing first and receiving the ultimate prize. The wise seniors finished first, followed by the sophomore, juniors and finishing last were the lost and confused rookies. This was the first time we had combined a conditioning workout with such a creative twist and it sure was an exciting two hours. After the not only physical but mental challenge, we finished the morning with a great breakfast.
This weekend we also hosted and helped out at a USAG age group meet. It is always a rewarding experience to be role models for our little fans.
Also this weekend a few of our Pioneers participated in the Keep Denton Beautiful Stream Clean (pictured below). Those involved include me, juniors Emily Seidelman and Brista Michael, and senior Jennifer Kingsbury. Our goal was to pick up trash located on the stream beds that are connected to our water supply. We had a great time getting dirty, moving tires, and finding many miscellaneous items.
As we close September and welcome October, many expectations are placed in front of us. Our goal is to establish consistency, that way we can rock in Rock-tober. I have confidence in this team, and I feel we have an exciting future ahead of us. The team bond this year has already proven to be a strong one. Wish us luck as we embrace the challenges ahead of us.
One Team: One Dream
