Pioneer Post - October 15, 2007
Welcome back Pioneer Fans!
My name is Kelsey Nixon and I am a junior majoring in Nutrition/Dietetics. I am really excited about the upcoming year. The talent and cohesiveness of this team is better than ever. There are a lot of bigger and better things happening this year and I am excited to “Embrace the Challenge”.
We are already half way through “ROCK-TOBER” and the year is already flying by. Our gymnastics is looking better than ever. We are working numbers and consistency on floor. Also, we are working more individually in smaller groups, focusing on a more one on one interaction with the coaches. On beam we have already starting working toward our routines. First and second halves of routines are already in the mix. Amy Hulbert, Tonya Pipkorn, Alexa Brennan and I showed our routines during practice this week, and completed them with no falls. Every week, bars continues to move in the right direction. We are catching releases and swinging aggressive working toward consistency in performing each combination before we start working routines. Caroline Hilpisch, who recently starting working piked jaegers, caught two in a row on Sunday, which is a huge step toward consistency for this newly-acquired skill.
This weekend was a big one for recruiting, as we are searching for potential team members for next year. We had four recruits visiting from Missouri, New York, and Colorado. It was a busy weekend full of fun and entertainment with the new recruits. Saturday afternoon we all went to Sneaky Pete’s, a local sand volleyball court, for some extreme volleyball action. After volleyball, we went to two of the girls’ apartment, where Jennifer Kingsbury prepared a delicious meal and s’mores by the fire. The night was full of games, movies, and girl time.
Our goal for Sunday was to make practice one of our “top 10” days. We came into the gym with a lot of energy starting off practice on the right foot. There were a lot of distractions; the recruits and their parents watched practice for a first-hand look at what TWU gymnastics is all about. Despite everything that was going on, I think we had one of our best practices of the year which will continue our journey in the right direction.
Go Pioneers!
