ABBI THOMAS SIGNS WITH TWU
DENTON, Texas (July 13) – Frank Kudlac, the head gymnastics coach of the Texas Woman’s University Pioneers, is excited to announce the signing of Abbi Thomas to a National Letter of Intent.
Thomas (pictured at right) will transfer to TWU from Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon. She has three years of NCAA athletic eligibility left after competing for the Beavers during the 2006 season. Academically, Thomas will be classified as a junior when she enrolls at TWU this fall.
Thomas, an all-arounder, hails from Georgetown, Texas. She honed her gymnastics skills for twelve years (1993-2005) at the renowned Capital Gymnastics Club in Austin, Texas. As a freshman in high school, she won the bars event and placed third in the all-around at the 2002 USAG Level 9 Region III Championships. In 2003, as a sophomore, she trained elite, and advanced through the elite compulsories. As a junior, she placed second in the all-around at the 2004 USAG Level 10 Texas State Championships. Additionally, she was the first alternate for the 2004 USAG Level 10 National Championships. During her last season of club gymnastics, 2005, she repeated as the first alternate for the 2005 USAG Level 10 National Championships.
Kudlac believes that Thomas is capable of contributing immediately for his team.
“We recruited Abbi (pictured at left) a few years ago because we felt she was a good fit for our program. She left Texas for Oregon, but after two years at OSU, she wanted to move back to Texas, closer to home, and continue her gymnastics career. We are excited about Abbi joining our program, and, with her experience, she should be able to step into our lineup right away. This is a win/win situation for both of us.”
