SILVER TEAM WINS INTRASQUAD COMPETITION
DENTON, Texas (Dec. 8) – The Silver, Maroon and White squads competed against each other at the Texas Woman’s University annual IntraSquad meet.
The Pioneers competed on the vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor. Silver won the competition with a score of 111.70, followed by Maroon (110.6) and White (108.15).
TWU head coach Frank Kudlac was enthused about the performance of his team in their initial competition of the season.
“One of our main goals as a team this season is to be ready (for the regular season) sooner. Our scores tonight showed that we are well on our way to doing that,” he said.
Kudlac also said that the IntraSquad meet provided a good measuring stick for his team.
“What I saw was this - while we’ve made a lot of progress since the school year began, we still have a long way to go. This meet will help us as a team evaluate what we need to work on before we begin our regular season,” he explained.
Junior Nicole Poling won the all-around competition with a score of 28.250. Freshman Lindy Hickman finished second (26.950) and freshman Rachel Zimmerman third (26.750).
The Pioneers gymnastic team will begin their 2007 regular season on Friday, Jan. 12, 2007 when they travel to Provo, Utah for a dual meet against the BYU Cougars. TWU’s first home gymnastics meet in 2007 will be on Sunday, January 21 when Central Michigan and Brown will come to Kitty Magee Arena for a 2:00 p.m. triangular meet.
