PIONEER POST from Courtney |
Pioneer Post - March 27, 2007
Hello Pioneer Gymnastics Fans!
This is Courtney Arno, glad to be back reporting all the wonderful news that goes on with TWU gymnastics! If you have kept up on all the meet results, you know that Arizona did not go as well as we had hoped for, so this past week was dedicated to some very hard work and focus on details. It was spring break as well, so without school, we were able to really put our entire focus and efforts into the gym and not let those little stresses of class and homework distract us.
Because of the open schedule from spring break, we were able to work out in the mornings when are bodies are fresh and energized, which also gave us the afternoons to rest and enjoy our spring break. We had planned a team cook out at the lake on Tuesday after gym, but due to the weather we had to cancel. So instead, we had a team dinner at coach’s house where he cooked chicken on the grill, and his wonderful wife, Johnna, helped with the fruit salad, baked potatoes, steamed veggies, and garlic bread. While waiting on dinner, the entire team piled into the living room to watch a slide show of all of coach’s pictures from the year on his big screen TV. It was so fun to sit back and see all that we have done through the year and see all the changes that people have made in such a short time. Then we all watched the American Cup which coach had recorded, which was fun and motivating to see what all these little 15-year-olds can do.
We left on Thursday, and bused it six hours to Arkansas. Let’s just say those bus trips are an experience in themselves, but nevertheless we had fun and made it safely there and back thanks to our bus driver, Larry. The competition was on Friday and I know we were all very ready to come back and prove ourselves from the week before. We started out on beam, and it went very well. We hit 5/6 routines and went to floor counting no falls. Floor started out good, but we unfortunately did have to count one fall. Next was vault and everyone was very determined to bring it back, which is exactly what we did. Everyone rocked out on vault with some of the best performances I have seen all year. We ended on bars, which I have to say could have gone better. We had a great start, but ended up having to count a fall in the end, which is okay, but definitely not what we wanted to do.
We ended up with a 192.0 to finish the meet, which is good, but not great. We are a great team shooting for excellence, which we hope to show everyone next week as we go to Chicago to defend our title as MIC Champions. This is a big week for us, so please check back next week to hear about the great results we will bring.
Thanks again for all your support. We love you!
Go Pioneers!!!!
