Hello, Pioneer Fans!
Welcome back to another week of TWU Gymnastics. My name is Brista Michael and I am a sophomore from Caldwell, Idaho.
This week in the gym we concentrated on practicing like we were in a competition. We worked hard, preparing ourselves for a key competition against conference rival Southeast Missouri State. On our last day of practice, we had a mock meet situation, where the goal was to hit 20 out of 24 routines. Although we fell short of the goal (18 out of 24 hit), we went into the competition with confidence and aspirations to come out on top.
We started our meet at SEMO on bars, where Jen Kingsbury debuted with a 9.6. We were glad to see her back in lineup, contributing to the team score. Also back in action was Tonya Pipkorn, who had been out for a couple weeks with an injury. It was great to see her on floor and beam again. We ended the meet on beam, having to count only one fall in our final team score. We achieved the goal of continuously improving on past meets and we recorded a season high score of 192.5. It is now time for everyone to concentrate on the little things that make us go from good to great!
We travel to Oklahoma this weekend (Sat, Mar. 3, 7:00pm) and will look to achieve another season high away score to help our average! This meet will be exciting as it will feature both OU’s women’s and men’s teams at the same time. The OU men will compete against Ohio State.
