Pioneer Post - February 12, 2007
Welcome back, Pioneer Fans!
Let’s just say that this was a very interesting and eventful week for the Pioneers. Plagued by sickness and injury, we were able to overcome yet another obstacle laid in our path. Over half of our team was down and unable to practice for the first half of the week. But as the week progressed, many girls began stepping up to show their will power and determination to keep the team moving in the right direction.
Unfortunately, later in the week we lost sophomore Tonya Pipkorn to an injury, and we all hope the best for her quick recovery. Being tested once again, the team as a whole prepared to perform for our home crowd in Magee Arena.
Competing against BYU and Ball State, our main focus was to push through with strong character; and that we did. At the meet we had many new and exciting performances. Brittany Parker competed her first competitive bar routine, while Courtney Arno surprised the crowd with her first collegiate floor routine at TWU. We were all very proud of how the team came together this week. Despite all the hardships that came our way, we were able to post our season-high team score (without counting any falls) and walked away with a second-place finish.
Now that most everyone is healthy, we are looking forward to a strong week of practice. The Pioneers will be at home this weekend, competing against Illinois State, the University of Illinois-Chicago, and Boise State. Come out and support the Pioneers Saturday, February 17, at 7 p.m. It is our annual Breast Cancer awareness meet so be sure to wear your pink!
Can’t wait to see you there!
GO PIONEERS!
