PIONEER POST from Jennifer |
Pioneer Post - January 29, 2007
Hello Pioneer Fans!
Welcome back to another exciting week of TWU gymnastics! This past week in the gym was a short one due to the fact that we had back-to-back home meets. Our goal for this week was to put more emphasis on hitting our routines and not just settling for making them. We also set a goal to perform every day in the gym like we are competing. This way the transition from the practice gym to our competition arena in Pioneer Hall would be easier.
At the meet on Saturday, local band Rivers West performed and did an awesome job. Their toe-tapping music definitely helped draw a large crowd!
The meet went very well for us against Centenary, George Washington, and OU. In fact we placed second behind OU with a team score of 191.275. The Pioneers started out on vault where we went seven for seven and recorded a high score of 9.8 by sophomore Brittany Parker. Next we moved to the bars which had been our problem area from last week. However, this week the bar team went five out of six with a high score of 9.825 by senior Courtney Arno. Brittany Parker also exhibitioned her routine for the first time as a Pioneer and did an amazing job! Next we went to beam where we had to count two falls. Despite that fact, several of the girls did an amazing job hitting their routines including freshman Leslie Pladson who competed for the first time this season! Finally we went to floor and hit five out of six routines with a high score of 9.75 by sophomore Amy Hulbert! I think everyone was really excited and proud of how we pulled ourselves together after beam and ended on a high note on floor.
This weekend we are in Shreveport, Louisiana, to face off against two MIC rivals: Centenary College and Illinois State University! It should be an exciting meet so check our website for the results and we hope to see our fans the following week for our third home meet on February 10 th at 7:00 p.m. against Ball State and BYU!
Go Pioneers!
