Pioneer Post - January 15, 2007
Hello everyone! My name is Tonya Pipkorn and I am a local Denton resident. Currently I am a sophomore on the TWU gymnastics team and a psychology major.
The week began with the last round of long practice days which prepared us to travel to Provo, Utah, to compete against the BYU Cougars. With several unexpected injuries we had to make many last-minute changes in the lineup. We tried to stay positive and perform at our best, but ended up falling short of our expectations. Since we didn’t hit our routines as well as we’d hoped the outcomes of the first meet fueled us to get into the gym and work extra hard this upcoming week.
The travel team of 13 experienced the inconvenience of bad weather in Dallas, which forced us to stay in Atlanta for the night. We made the best of it with the unlikely conditions handed to us. Finally arriving back home Sunday afternoon, we quickly got back into the gym to prepare for our first home meet of the season which is this Sunday, Jan. 21, at 2 p.m. Sunday night’s practice showed how everyone had turned their frustration into positive motivation. Vaults looked a lot more consistent and rejuvenated. With the determination to get back on track, our plan for this week is to be accountable for ourselves and our teammates. As a unit our goal is to have a successful meet this weekend.
Come support the TWU Gymnastics team at our first home meet against Brown University and Central Michigan. TWU gymnastics will also conduct their high school gymnast “Perfect 10” promotion at this meet. All individuals who are in 9th-12th grades and a member of a high school gymnastics team will be admitted to the meet for just 10 cents. Also, the first 150 people will receive a “Pioneer Proud” shirt and Smoothie King will be giving away free smoothies while supplies last.
Hope to see you there! GO PIONEERS!
