BRITTANY FOSTER WILL BRING HER GAME TO TWU
DENTON, Texas (April 29) – The Texas Woman’s University basketball team landed another talented player earlier this week when forward Brittany Foster (pictured) signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Pioneers.
Foster, 6’0”, has played for the last two years (2006-08) at New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, New Mexico. She averaged 14 points, seven rebounds, one assist, one block and two steals per game during her two seasons in a Lady Thunderbirds uniform. As a freshman, she pulled down 14 rebounds per game, the 13 th most in the entire NJCAA. She also took home the MVP award at the 2007 NMJC Thunderbird Classic.
Foster also found success in the classroom at junior college, as evidenced by her selection to the 2008 NJCAA Women’s Basketball Academic All-American team.
Prior to her stint at NMJC, Foster played four years (2003-06) of varsity basketball at Mesquite High School in Phoenix, Arizona. Following her freshman and sophomore seasons, she was named honorable mention All-Region. As a junior, she played her way onto the All-Region second team and earned the distinction of honorable mention All-State. As a senior, she was named first team All-Region, second team All-State, and the MHS team MVP. She won the Wildcats’ “Best Rebounder” award as a sophomore, junior, and senior en route to setting the school’s all-time career rebounding record.
TWU head basketball coach Beth Jillson is looking forward to having Foster in a Pioneer uniform.
“Brittany is an extremely versatile player,” said Jillson. “First and foremost, she is an excellent rebounder and defender. She’s also a capable scorer, both with her back to the basket and from the perimeter. I expect her to make an immediate contribution to our team.”
Foster is the first out-of-state player in Jillson’s 2008-09 recruiting class. Guard Casey Pool, from Fort Worth, committed to TWU in November 2007 while Texas natives Jessica Bell (a 5’10” guard from Garland), Taylor Daniel (a 5’4” guard from Martin’s Mill), and Mallory Schenk (a 6’2” post from Windthorst) all signed NLI’s with the Pioneers earlier this month. |
