RENZ PICKED FOR DAKTRONICS ALL-REGION TEAM
DENTON, Texas (March 12) - Texas Woman’s University junior post player Renee Renz (pictured) has been named to the 2007-2008 Division II Daktronics Women’s Basketball All-South Central Region second team.
The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing, and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. The team is voted on by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). First-team members from each of the eight regions across the country move onto the national ballot in the voting for All-America honors.
A transfer from the University of Arkansas-Little Rock, Renz was nothing short of dominant in her first season as a Pioneer. She led TWU, and was fourth in the entire Lone Star Conference (LSC), by scoring 18.3 points per game. She also pulled down a TWU team-best 8.9 rebounds per game, tying for the third-highest rebound total in the LSC. The Flower Mound High School product also finished tops on the TWU roster in total points (495), field goals made (177), field goals attempted (374), field goal percentage (.473), free throws made (123), free throws attempted (166), offensive rebounds (70), defensive rebounds (169), total rebounds (239), blocks (22) and steals (49). She scored double-figures in 25 of the Pioneers’ 27 games played and totaled more than 20 points on eleven occasions. She also recorded a remarkable eleven double-doubles.
“I can’t say enough good things about the way Renee played this season,” said TWU head coach Beth Jillson. “She was our leader, both offensively and defensively. By the end of the year, she was playing as good as anybody in the country.”
Renz is just the second player in the 35-year history of the TWU basketball program to earn a Daktronics All-Region selection. Rhonda Wilson earned the distinction following the 1995-1996 season.
The All-Region recognition is the third postseason award for Renz. On March 4, she was chosen as the 2007-08 LSC South Division Newcomer of the Year and picked for the 2007-08 All-LSC South Division first team.
