PIONEERS WELCOME MUSTANGS TO MAGEE ARENA ON WEDNESDAY
DENTON, Texas (February 5) - The Texas Woman’s University Pioneers will take on the Midwestern State University Mustangs in an important Lone Star Conference South Division basketball game on Wednesday, February 6, at 7:00 p.m. in Kitty Magee Arena.
TWU (7-12 overall) has a 2-4 record in LSC South Division play. The Pioneers are currently in fifth place in the division standings, just one game behind Midwestern State (9-10, 3-3 LSC South). With just the top four teams in the division qualifying for the 2008 Lone Star Conference Championship tournament, TWU head coach Beth Jillson is well aware of the critical nature of Wednesday night’s game.
“This is easily one of the biggest games of our season,” said Jillson. “In order for us play in the conference tournament, Midwestern is a team that we need to beat. We’ve had a good week of practice thus far and we’ll be ready to go.”
Both TWU and MSU have won two out of their last three games played.
“We’re playing well,” said Jillson. “But so is Midwestern. This is going to be an exciting ballgame, and I’m hopeful that our fans will come out and help give us a little bit of a homecourt advantage.”
The Texas Challenge Senior Women’s Basketball Squad, with athletes ranging from 65-91 years old, will be on hand to perform a basketball exhibition at halftime. Several TWU basketball alumni, including Hall of Fame members Peggy Allen McCoy (Class of 1991) and Tammi Julch Williams (Class of 1994), will also be recognized with a brief halftime ceremony.
