COLD SHOOTING COSTS PIONEERS IN LOSS
Box Score
DENTON, Texas (November 10) - The Texas Woman’s University Pioneers struggled to put the ball in the basket on Saturday afternoon, and, as a result, lost an exhibition game to the Oklahoma Flyers, 85-79.
TWU shot just 37.8 percent (31-82) from the field for the game. From three-point range, the Pioneers connected on a mere 23.5 percent (4-17) of their attempts. The Pioneers also made only 13 of the 22 (59.1 percent) free throws they shot.
“We’re not going to win too many games if we shoot like that,” said TWU head coach Beth Jillson. “We had tons of good looks at the basket, especially in the paint. But, we didn’t finish. In order for us to be successful, we’ve got to shoot much better than we did today.”
Four players totaled double-figure points in the win for the Flyers, a traveling club team made up of former college basketball players. Guards Emily Jaskowiak and Jenni Lingor scored 20 points apiece. Guard Lauren Decker tallied 14 points and guard Andrea Cossey contributed 13 points.
Sophomore guard Jessica Durr, with 18 points, was the high-scorer in the game for the Pioneers. Durr also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. Sophomore post Chelsea Cook (11 points), sophomore guard Keshia Bolds (nine points), and freshman guard Tia Dixon (nine points) also played well offensively in the loss for TWU.
The Pioneers will open their 2007-08 regular season next week with two games at the Emporia State University Tournament. On Friday, November 16, TWU will play Missouri Western University at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, November 17, the Pioneers will meet Emporia State at 7:30 p.m.
