FORWARD RENEE RENZ COMING TO TWU
DENTON, Texas (Apr. 16) – The Pioneer basketball team will welcome another new face for the 2007-08 season as forward Renee Renz (pictured) is transferring to Texas Woman’s University this fall.
Renz, 6’0”, played the last two seasons at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock (UALR) where she started all 31 of the Trojans’ games during their recently completed 2006-07 campaign. She finished fourth on the UALR roster in scoring by totaling 8.5 points per game. Additionally, she grabbed 5.2 rebounds per game, the second highest total on the Trojans’ squad. She also finished second amongst all UALR players in blocks (27) and free throw percentage (.770).
As a freshman in 2005-06, Renz started 27 of the Trojans’ 28 games and posted team-leading totals in rebounds (7.2) and blocks per game (1.7). She also averaged 13.3 points per game, the second most on the team. For her efforts, she was named the 2006 Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year.
Renz prepped for collegiate basketball with a standout high school basketball career at Flower Mound ( Texas) High School. As a senior, she averaged 18.5 points and 10.8 rebounds per game to lead the Jaguars to the 2005 District 8-5A championship. Her proficient play earned her spots on both the 2005 Dallas Morning News All-Area First Team and 2005 Fort Worth Star-Telegram Super Team. She was also chosen as the 2005 District 8-5A Most Valuable Player.
TWU head coach Rene Hanebutt is thrilled to have Renz headed to Denton.
“Renee will make an immediate impact on our team. She is a highly-skilled, multi-dimensional player. In addition to being able to post up and play with her back to the basket, she can also step out and make the three-point shot,” Hanebutt stated.
Hanebutt also spoke glowingly about Renz’s competitive nature.
“I had a chance to see Renee play as a high school senior, and what sticks out in my mind to this day about her is the level of intensity she plays with. She’s easily one of the most competitive kids that I’ve ever seen on a basketball court. Her effort is what makes her a tremendous player,” she explained.
Renz joins China Spring ( Texas) High School guard Jessica Hanna who signed with TWU last November. Hanebutt wholeheartedly expects more players to sign with TWU during the spring signing period.
“We’ve made offers to a handful of talented players. I’m confident that we’ll get a few more kids in here, but, as is always the case, we just have to wait to see how the recruiting process plays out,” she said.
