THREE PIONEERS EARN LSC ALL-ACADEMIC HONORS

DENTON, Texas (Mar. 6) – Three Texas Woman’s University basketball student-athletes - Kelley Humphries, Jennifer Schilb, and Maggy Deweber - received Lone Star Conference academic honors on Tuesday.

Humphries (pictured) was named to the 2007 LSC South Division All-Academic Basketball Team while Schilb and Deweber were selected to the 2007 LSC South Division Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

To be eligible for LSC academic recognition, student-athletes must have reached sophomore status and carry at least a 3.20 grade point average. The All-Academic Team is selected from the list of academically qualified players with the league’s sports information directors voting on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement. All qualifying student-athletes not selected for the All-Academic Team are then named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

This is the third year in a row that Humphries, a senior forward, has received an LSC academic award. In 2004-05, the biology/pre-med major from Coupland, Texas, was a member of the LSC South Division Commissioner’s Honor Roll. Last year, she was chosen for the LSC South Division All-Academic Team. As a senior with a 3.95 GPA, Humphries’ leadership and experience proved invaluable for the young Pioneer squad throughout the 2006-07 campaign.

This is Schilb’s second consecutive appearance on the LSC South Division Commissioner’s Honor Roll. The junior post from Coppell, Texas, is majoring in business finance and has a 3.79 GPA. She proved to be a valuable bench player, contributing 2.7 points and 1.3 rebounds per game and appearing in 24 of the Pioneers’ 27 games.

Deweber, a sophomore guard from Bowie, Texas, started 25 games for TWU this season. She led the Pioneers with 43 three-point field goals made and finished as the team’s second-leading scorer averaging 8.8 points per game. Deweber’s on-court excellence carried over to the classroom as she is maintaining a 3.35 GPA this year while pursuing her kinesiology degree.

TWU finished its 2006-07 basketball season last month with an 11-16 overall record and a 5-9 mark in LSC South Division play.
