HUMPHRIES SELECTED FOR ESPN THE MAGAZINE ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM
DENTON, Texas (Feb. 9) – Texas Woman’s University senior basketball player Kelley Humphries has been named to the 2007 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VI College Division Women’s Basketball Team.
Humphries, a native of Coupland, Texas, was tabbed for the third team with a 3.95 grade point average in biology with a pre-medicine emphasis. This is the third consecutive year that Humphries has received this honor. Last year, she was a second team selection. In 2005, she was a third team selection.
To qualify for the ESPN Academic All-America team, athletes must have over a 3.20 cumulative GPA, be in their second year of competition at the institution and be a starter or key substitute. The teams are selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
A defensive and rebounding specialist, Humphries has played in 19 of the Pioneers’ 22 games this season. Her senior leadership has also proved very valuable on a young TWU hoops squad that boasts seven freshman and two sophomores.
In addition to her athletic and academic commitments at TWU, Humphries is currently in her third year as the president of the TWU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). She was also named to the 2006 Lone Star Conference All-Academic women’s basketball team and has been chosen twice, in 2005 and 2006, to the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars Women’s Basketball first team announced by Black Issues in Higher Education. A 2005 TWU Emerging Student Leader, Humphries is a member of the Dean’s List and the recipient of a TWU Presidential Scholarship.
