TWU HOOPS TEAM FACES CRITICAL TWO GAME HOMESTAND
DENTON, Texas (Feb. 1) – The Texas Woman’s University Pioneers basketball team will play two very important Lone Star Conference South Division home games in the next three days.
Tonight, Thursday, February 1, the Pioneers will take on the Eastern New Mexico Zias at 7:00 p.m. in Magee Arena. The Pioneers (9-10 overall, 3-3 LSC South) are currently in a three-way tie for third place in the LSC South with Tarleton State and Abilene Christian. Despite having a 9-9 overall record, the Zias are winless this season in conference play, having dropped their first six LSC South games of the year.
This Saturday, Feb. 3, TWU will welcome the LSC South Division leading West Texas A&M Lady Buffs to Magee Arena for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off. The Lady Buffs (17-3 overall, 6-0 LSC South) have won six out of their last seven games played and will come to Denton on Saturday night ranked tenth in this week’s USA TODAY/ESPN/WBCA Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll.
TWU head coach Rene Hanebutt believes her team is ready for the challenges that lie ahead.
“I feel like we’re going to be ready to play,” said Hanebutt. “It’s virtually a must-win situation for us, playing here on our home court against two conference opponents. We really need to win both of these games, but we’ve got to have one.”
Thursday night’s contest versus ENMU will be a Maroon Out night. Fans are asked to wear their TWU Maroon to the game. Additionally, spectators coming to the game will receive free CiCi’s pizza while supplies last.
Saturday night’s game against WTAMU will feature a senior women’s basketball scrimmage at halftime.
TWU students, faculty and staff (with a valid TWU ID) receive free admission to all TWU home basketball games. Adult tickets are $4.00 and non-TWU students, children, and senior citizens gain admission for just $3.00.
