PIONEERS HAVE IMPORTANT VALENTINE’S DAY DATE WITH MSU
DENTON , Texas (Feb. 13) – This Wednesday, February 14, at 7 p.m., the Texas Woman’s University Pioneers will welcome the Midwestern State University Mustangs to Magee Arena for a critical Lone Star Conference South Division basketball game.
TWU (10-13) and MSU (11-11) are currently tied for fourth in the LSC South with identical 4-6 records. With only the top four teams in each division (North and South) qualifying for the 2007 Lone Star Conference Women’s Basketball postseason tournament, and because there are just two weeks left in the regular season, Wednesday night’s game will be crucial for both the Pioneers and the Mustangs.
“This is obviously a big game for us,” stated TWU head coach Rene Hanebutt. “We need to be ready to take care of business on our home court. It’s going to be important that we start the game well and defend well. I also want my team to push the ball for forty minutes; I feel like we have a much deeper bench than MSU so I want to try and wear them down.”
The Pioneers have struggled as of late, losing two games in a row and four out of their last six. Hanebutt, however, is confident that her team can turn things around.
“This whole season has been a learning experience for us,” she said. “All year long we’ve learned what to do and what not to do. I’m hopeful that our lessons will pay off here in the final weeks of the season and we can finish strong.”
This will be the second meeting of the season between these two teams. On January 18, the Mustangs narrowly defeated the Pioneers, 62-61, in Wichita Falls.
In honor of Valentine’s Day, several promotional activities will be taking place at Wednesday night’s game.
Beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the north parking lot of Pioneer Hall, Krystal Burger will be giving away free Krystal Burgers while supplies last.
Additionally, TWU Athletics is offering a “Couples Only” two-for-one special on adult general admission tickets ($4.00). There will also be two halftime shooting contests for fans to participate in - the Nasr Bros. $250 Jewelry Shoot and the $10,000 Edward Jones Investments Three-Point Shooting Contest. Two fans will also be given the opportunity to take home a gift certificate from Outback Steakhouse in a “Dance for Your Dinner” contest.
TWU students, faculty, and staff with a valid TWU ID get in free to all TWU home athletics events. Tickets for senior citizens, children (7-17) and non-TWU students are just $3.00.
