CHELSI THRAILKILL JOINS TWU HOOPS TEAM
DENTON, Texas (Dec. 18) – The roster of the Texas Woman’s University basketball team grew by one on Monday when head coach Rene Hanebutt announced the addition of freshman Chelsi Thrailkill (pictured).
Thrailkill, a local product from Denton High School, initially elected not to continue her basketball career in college. After a recent change of heart, she decided to enroll at TWU and will begin classes on January 17, 2007. She will make her on-court debut for the Pioneers this Thursday, December 21, when TWU hosts Texas A&M-Kingsville in a Lone Star Conference South Division game at 7:00 p.m. in Kitty Magee Arena.
Thrailkill, a 5-8 guard, comes to TWU after a highly-decorated playing career at Denton High. She started for four years from 2002-06 on the Broncos’ varsity squad and totaled 1,594 career points while racking up numerous awards and honors.
In 2002-03, she was the District 6-4A Newcomer of the Year and was also chosen as the Lady Bronco Basketball Gatorade Rookie of the Year.
In 2003-04, she was named to the All-District 6-4A first team and also earned a spot on the Denton Record-Chronicle All-Area first team. Additionally, she was selected as the Lady Bronco team MVP and the Lady Bronco Basketball Gatorade Player of the Year.
In 2004-05, she was chosen for the All-District 5-4A first team and the Denton Record-Chronicle All-Area first team. She was also honored as the District 5-4A Offensive Player of the Year and named to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) All-Region I-4A team.
Last season as a senior, she was once again chosen for the All-District 5-4A first team while playing her way on to the Texas Basketball Magazine All-State 4A team.
Hanebutt is looking forward to having Thrailkill in a Pioneer uniform.
"I am very excited to have Chelsi join our team,” Hanebutt said. “She is a tremendously gifted offensive player who is a very capable shooter. I really think she will be able to make an immediate contribution and will quickly become one of our top scoring threats.”
Thrailkill and the Pioneers (5-4, 1-0 LSC South) will be gunning for their third consecutive win when they meet the Javelinas on Thursday night. It will be TWU’s second straight game against TAMUK. Last Saturday, the Pioneers hammered the Javelinas, 72-47, in Kingsville.
