PIONEER POST from Tonya

Pioneer Post - April 21, 2007

(Editor's Note: This is the fifth in a series of "Pioneer Posts" from Seattle, Washington detailing the TWU Pioneers experiences at the 2007 USAG National Championships)

Hello Pioneer Fans!

Our National Championship competition here in Seattle was wrapped up tonight the individual event finals.

We woke up and had the morning free to spend time with our families. We were able to relax and enjoy the sights of Seattle. We headed back to the hotel for lunch while our event finalists were preparing for competition. With team competition being over, it was easy to just relax and have a fun time competing. The girls warmed up and then competed one at a time. Senior Cat Schnoes started the meet off for TWU on vault. She did two amazing vaults!! She started the meet off great! Then we headed to bars, where Courtney Arno captured the first place title on bars to keep the TWU Pioneers three year streak of national bar champions intact. Courtney now has two individual event national titles after capturing the 2006 championship on beam. Rachel Zimmerman also competed on beam and placed first.

Following beam, we headed to floor where Amy Hulbert delivered her best effort despite her tiring legs of day three. As a sophomore, this was Hulbert's first time to qualify for the individual event finals and make All-American on floor. We are very proud of her!

We also had second team All-Americans on floor and vault. Sophomores Brittany Parker and Amy Hulbert for vault and Tonya Pipkon for floor.

To conclude the meet, senior Cat Schnoes won the Mari-Rae Soper Spirit Award for her passion, dedication and devotion in the sport of gymnastics.

We are glad to finally be going home! Check back later this week for a summation of the season by the seniors.

Go Pioneers!!!

Tonya Pipkorn
Sophomore
