Pioneer Post - April 19, 2007
(Editor's Note: This is the third in a series of "Pioneer Posts" from Seattle, Washington detailing the TWU Pioneers experiences at the 2007 USAG National Championships)
Hello Pioneer Fans!!
What an exciting day for the Pioneer gymnasts!!!
The team got to sleep in again today, which was nice, and then we got to spend some time with our families! Some decided to go to Pike’s Fish Market. This is a really fun place to go; they throw fish and it’s just a really entertaining atmosphere. Some of the girls also went to the first original Starbucks. The world famous Space Needle was also a popular site to visit today. Some of my teammates and I, along with our families, rode to the top of the needle (605 feet high). What a great view of Seattle!
After spending some quality time with our families, we met for a delicious lunch at the hotel. At 4:00 pm we headed to the meet. It’s a tradition at nationals for the seniors to “decorate” the vans to get us pumped for the meet. The ride to the meet is always exciting! Everyone was singing and dancing and getting so pumped up!
If I could sum up the meet in one word, it would be “AMAZING”! We had a great start on bars; everyone executed solid routines, and we did not have to count a fall. We then moved to beam which was stellar. Floor was next, and everyone did amazing routines!!! The floor team had a very solid score! We finished the meet on vault; everyone did a great job, and we didn’t have to count a fall.
We waited anxiously for awards to begin. First the qualifiers for the individual event finals were announced. TWU has a representative for each event for the individual finals on Saturday! Catherine Schnoes, Courtney Arno, Amy Hulbert, and Rachel Zimmerman all qualified! (to qualify, they had to place in the top 5 on an event). Team scores were then announced. We got 2 nd place with a 193.05 and we will advance to tomorrow’s competition to compete for the National title!
We certainly did what we needed to do tonight! Everyone is so excited for tomorrow’s meet! We will start on bars, which is a great rotation for us, considering we have been practicing this order for three weeks. Check back soon to hear the results of tomorrow!
Go PiONEers!!!
