A PAIR OF PROMOTIONS SET FOR THIS WEEKEND’S PIONEER HOME GAMES
DENTON , Texas (September 19) – Both the TWU Volleyball and the TWU Soccer teams will be in action on the TWU campus this weekend.
On Saturday, September 22, the Pioneer volleyball team will host Southeastern Oklahoma State University at 2:00 p.m. in Magee Arena. The match has been dubbed Denton County Student Appreciation Day. For just 25 cents, all students (elementary, middle school, or high school) from Denton County schools can get a ticket and a popcorn for this match. TWU head coach Shelly Barberee, who has been busy this week sending invites to local schools, is hopeful that there will be a large contingent of area students on hand Saturday for what will be the Lone Star Conference home opener for the Pioneers.
“I want to make our arena an exciting environment to play in,” said Barberee. “If we can get a bunch of loud and rowdy students to come out, I’m sure that will give us a little bit of a home court advantage.”
On Sunday, September 23 at 2:00 p.m., the Pioneer soccer team will take the pitch at the TWU Soccer Field against East Central University. At Sunday’s game, the first Lone Star Conference tilt of the year for TWU, the Pioneers will promote Breast Cancer Awareness. For every corner kick that TWU takes in the game, fans will be asked to donate a $1.00 to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The TWU players will be honoring breast cancer survivors by incorporating the color pink into their gameday dress. Additionally, information on breast cancer and breast cancer prevention will be available at the TWU Promotions table located just inside the main entrance to the field.
TWU students, faculty, and staff (with a valid TWU ID) are admitted free to all TWU home athletics events. Additionally, TWU faculty and staff will be granted three free admissions per home event for guests of their choice (excluding students in grades 9-12). There is also no admission fee for children six and under.
