TWU ATHLETES CONTINUE ACADEMIC SUCCESS

DENTON, Texas (June 18, 2008) – The student-athletes at Texas Woman’s University continue to make the grades.

The 77 women on the spring rosters of the Pioneers’ five NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletic teams (basketball, gymnastics, soccer, softball, and volleyball) recorded a cumulative 3.2466 grade point average during the recently completed spring 2008 semester. This marks the 52nd semester in a row (26 full academic years) of a cumulative semester GPA of 3.0 or higher by the Pioneers.

“Once again, I am thoroughly impressed by the academic performance of our TWU student-athletes,” said Chalese Connors, the Pioneers’ Director of Athletics. “To maintain a B average for 52 semesters in a row is one heck of an accomplishment. All of our coaches and student-athletes should be commended.”

The TWU volleyball squad (pictured) had the highest team GPA - 3.627 - for the semester. The team semester grade point averages for the other four Pioneer teams were also outstanding, a 3.426 for gymnastics, a 3.200 for softball, a 3.030 for basketball, and a 2.950 for soccer.
