TWU FALLS TO SOSU TO FINISH SEASON
IRVING , Texas – Texas Woman’s University resumed play at the Lone Star Conference Postseason Softball Championship Tournament but had its season end in a 5-1 loss to Southeastern Oklahoma State.
The Pioneers (25-36-1) and Savages (40-11) recommenced its second round contest from Friday that was suspended after rain moved into the Irving, Texas, area.
“We had a good run to get into the LSC postseason tournament. We earned it. I am proud of how we stepped up to come in as the South Division second seed,” head coach Marty Blowers said. “It is disappointing that we didn’t go any further.”
The game continued with Amanda Danesi on first base and Rhonda Sherman at the plate with 2-1 count. Sherman walked which advanced Danesi to second base. Rachel Johnson moved them up a base with a sacrifice bunt. With one out, Amber Brooks singled up the middle to give TWU an early lead.
Southeastern took control with three runs off four hits in the third inning. Kenna Dean started the frame with a lead-off walk. The Savages put runners on second and third base with a bunt single and a sacrifice. A base hit and another bunt for a hit plated two runs. With two outs, a passed ball negated a strikeout and allowed Rachel Lynn to score from second base.
The Savages added two more runs in the fourth as Kylie Ferguson hit a two-run homer. She took the 0-2 delivery from Lindsy Russ-Keller down the left field line and over the fence.
TWU managed just two hits after the second inning. Amanda Emory singled in the third and Amanda Arnold tripled in the sixth.
SOSU starter Jami McAdoo threw a complete game scattering four hits with five k’s.
Russ-Keller (13-15) allowed 12 hits with a walk and a strikeout.
“Lindsy pitched a great game,” Blowers added. “It was difficult to defend the soft hits and bunts to the seams. We adjusted to stop the bunts.”
