“In the first game we didn’t show up period,” head coach Marty Blowers said. “In game two we used a little different infield with Rhonda ( Sherman) at first, Krystyna (Sims) at second, Rachel (Johnson) at shortstop and Rachel (Townsend) at third. We had more intensity and put up a fight.”

The Pioneers (9-19) first game of the day was against the Lopers. UNK had 10 hits and scored in the third, fourth and sixth innings. A five-run sixth frame enforced the run rule to end the game.

Ashley Martin (4-10) took the complete game loss on the mound. Sherman had the Pioneers only hit of the contest.

TWU rebounded from the loss to beat MSC. The Pioneers had 14 hits including a home run by Sarah White. White belted the first homer of her career in the sixth inning.

Lindsy Russ-Keller (3-6) earned the win. In seven innings of work, she allowed 10 hits counting two Maverick home runs.

“Lindsy pitched a very good game. Mesa has big hitters,” Blowers added. “The team provided the defensive and offensive support as well.”

The Pioneers scored in four innings with a five-run seventh frame. Sims went 2-for-2 with a double, single and two walks to lead TWU. Amber Brooks was 2-for-3 at the plate.
